Oral Surgery
Oral surgery is the specialty that is dedicated to the treatment of oral lesions and surrounding structures.
Among the different treatments that are usually performed, surgical wisdom tooth extraction, periodontal surgery, implantological surgery, or surgery of infectious lesions, among others, stand out.
Impacted teeth are those that cannot erupt properly and are totally or partially submerged by the gums and/or bone. It happens most often in wisdom teeth, although it can also occur in other teeth such as canines or lateral incisors. They are due to anthropological reasons: prehistoric man had a larger skull and jaws, being able to house the 32 teeth that humans usually have. With evolution, the size of the jaws decreased and as such increased the difficulty of wisdom teeth (those found further back in the mouth) to erupt.
Other possible causes are the improper position of other teeth, the incorrect position of the tooth itself, or abnormal tooth development.
There is no possible answer without previously evaluating the patient. If it is necessary to remove it, it will be under local anesthesia and can be complemented with conscious sedation in cases that require it.
