What is CBCT?

CBCT stands for Cone Beam Computed Tomography. It is an innovative medical imaging technology that uses X-rays to produce detailed three-dimensional (3D) images of bone structures and teeth.

Key Features and Uses

  • 3D Images: Unlike traditional X-rays or even conventional computed tomography (CT) scans, which emit cylindrical beams, CBCT uses a cone-shaped X-ray beam, allowing a complete volume of data to be captured in a single rotation.
  • Low Radiation: This technique involves a significantly lower dose of ionising radiation compared to a conventional CT scan, making it safer for the patient.
  • Diagnosis and Planning: It allows us to obtain an accurate diagnosis for planning procedures such as dental implant placement, impacted tooth extraction, and orthodontic evaluations.
  • Anatomical Detail: It provides specific, high-resolution anatomical details that are often not visible in traditional radiographic examinations.
